Homeopathy - Safe, Low Cost Medicine of the Future
“Homeopathy is a low-cost, nontoxic system of medicine used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Ii is particularly effective in treating chronic illnesses that fail to respond to conventional treatment, and is also a superb method of self care for minor conditions...” Alternative Medicine, The Definitive Guide
Homeopathy is a complete system of healing discovered over 200 years ago by a German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. Based upon the simple understanding that “like cures like,” it has since developed into a sophisticated science of diagnosis and prescription offering a wide variety of homeopathic remedies to use in the healing process.
How Homeopathy Works
Homeopathic remedies are made from tiny amounts of substances found in nature. Homeopathics have no harmful side effects. Scientists have theorized that homeopathy may work in your body somewhat like enzymes or hormones, which can he found in similar minute quantities, yet have very dynamic actions in the body.
“The highest ideal of cure is the: speedy, gentle, and enduring restoration of health by the most trustworthy and least harmful way.” Samuel Nahuemanu, founder of Homeopathy
Homeopathy has proven effective in treating many diseases for which conventional medicine has little to offer. However, due to its low cost, which threatens the profits of the pharmaceutical industry, and because it does not follow conventional medical thinking, homeopathy has been continually attacked by the medical establishment. This happens despite the fact that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognizes homeopathic remedies as official drugs and regulates their manufacturing, labeling and dispensing. Homeopathic remedies also have their own official compendium, the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, which was first published in 1897.
Homeopathy has helped billions of people since its inception. It is practiced around the world, with an estimated 500 million people receiving homeopathic treatment yearly. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), homeopathy is the second largest medical system people rely on for primary health care in the world. Ii is especially commonplace in Europe, the birthplace of homeopathy. In France, for instance, pharmacies are required to carry homeopathic remedies along with conventional drugs. In Britain, homeopathic hospitals and clinics are part of the national health care system.
In America, homeopathy was very popular from the mid I 800s to the early 1 900s when the most prestigious medical schools were homeopathic. In fact, the very first medical association was the American Institute of homeopathy, formed in 1844. 1’he American Medical Association (AMA) was formed three years later. By the early I 900s, however, the financial bond between the AMA and drug companies was firmly established. Pharmaceutical companies clearly favored proprietary drugs with patent rights, which could not be freely manufactured. The AMA’s main source of revenue has always been from paid advertisements by the pharmaceutical industry. At the same time, drug companies started to pay prominent doctors to endorse patented drugs, and physicians all over the country started to receive “free’ samples of these drugs. In very simple terms, allopathic or conventional medicine was much more aggressively marketed than homeopathy. These marketing techniques, along with other maneuverings, led to the relative disappearance of homeopathy by the 1930s. Few knew then of the dangerous side-effects inherent in synthetic pharmaceutical drugs. Today, because of a renewed understanding of drug toxicity and its detrimental effects on health, homeopathy is again growing rapidly in the United States. Statistics now show that the American public is returning to this form of treatment in dramatic numbers as millions have begun to rediscover homeopathy and its benefits.
Effectiveness: Homeopathy is effective. Scientifically-conducted double-blind tests have shown that homeopathy helps with all kinds of ailments, acute and chronic. In fact, the first “blind” tests were actually developed and conducted by homeopathic doctors, not medical doctors.
No side effects: Homeopathy has no side effects. In all the millions of cases treated with homeopathy it has never been shown to be toxic to the body. It is suitable for pregnant women, infants and children.
Safety: Homeopathy is safe. Millions of lay people use it to help themselves and their families without any dangerous physical repercussions. Even if accidentally an incorrect homeopathic remedy is used, no harm can be done. The body ignores the remedy and no harmful effects are produced.
Low cost: Homeopathy is economical, it is much less expensive than prescription drugs, and it has a very long shelf life.
Since homeopathic remedies are derived from natural substances and, therefore, are unpatentable, no drug company will provide funds for wide-scale research and marketing. The low cost of homeopathic products makes it virtually impossible for a pharmaceutical company to recoup its research investment. Despite of these “obstacles,” homeopathy, like other forms of natural medicine including herbal medicine and nutritional supplementation, is destined to become a permanent part of the health care field in America.
“Homeopathy is well suited to self- care and can become an integral part of your and your family’s health maintenance program. Official acceptance of homeopathy and its integration into the American health care system could prove to have an enormous impact on lowering the cost of national health care due to the low cost, safety, and effectiveness of homeopathic remedies.” Alternative Medicine, The Definitive Guide
